The Seattle-Tashkent Sister City Association is a volunteer-based 501(c)3 non-profit organization under the auspices of the City of Seattle and recognized by the International Sister Cities Association. Tashkent is the capital of the Republic of Uzbekistan, which became an independent country in 1991. In 2008 Seattle and Tashkent will celebrate thirty-five years of exchanges ranging from cultural and educational projects to business and governmental relations.
